My Russian artist friend Kirilll Stefanov *(yes, three lll’s at the end of his first name) was perusing his online portfolio of art works when he serendipitously discovered a sketch that he didn’t recognize right away.
It was the impromptu work (above) that I’m so proud to own!
We became friends during the brief time we shared accommodations in the Holy Sheet Hostel in Cairo a few months ago. He was trying to find a place where he could bring his wife and children to stay before the war in Ukraine broke out. But the war beat him to the punch and his task became more difficult.
I moved on but not before he sketched me on my phone in the common room of the hostel, where we would talk. He presented the sketch before I left then I lost track of him but often thought of him, and posted this on the blog.
The wondrous ways of technology eventually paid off when Kirilll sent me the good news a couple of days ago from Fethiye , Turkey, saying he was safe and sound and expecting to be reunited with his family there within a week.

Let’s hope things work out well this time, finally, for my good friend.
I can’t wait to see a photo of Kirilll with his family very soon! I’m happy they all have a safe haven where they can be together.
I’m so glad Kirilll found the sketch and you and will be safely reunited soon with his family.
